Step 2:

Set whether you would like to insert the images resized or at their original size; set them as backgrounds (tiled or stretched), link them, position them. The images are centered on the slide by default.

When using a slide layout all the options apart from the fifth one gets disabled. The imported images take the attributes of the 'image placeholder' which represent them on the layout slide. To learn more about how to create layout slide click here.
