FlashBack - Add-in to rewind Flash movies in PowerPoint automatically

"How do I rewind Flash Movies automatically during a slide show?" This question comes up often on the Microsoft Public PowerPoint Group, so I finally decided to work on it. FlashBack is the result. FlashBack will rewind the Flash movies inserted using the Shockwave Flash control automatically.

Tip: Use the Flash Movie tool which is a part of Shyam's Toolbox to insert Flash movies into PowerPoint.

Versions Supported: PowerPoint 97 and later versions.

Download zip or Download installer

Download flashback 2.0 (only recommended for users who want to rewind movies placed on the slide masters too)

This update fixes the residual frame flashing which happens before the movie is rewound.

Installation instructions:

  • Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder

  • Launch PowerPoint.

  • Select Tools | Add-ins | Add new...

  • Locate the FlashBack add-in and select it.

  • An 'X' mark against 'FlashBack' should appear in the list of add-ins loaded.

  • If you cannot load an add-in in PowerPoint 2000 or later  then check the macro settings (Tools | Macros | Security) and set it security level - MEDIUM.

    1. Select Tools | Macros | Security on the security level tab, check MEDIUM.
    2. Click on OK
    3. Now load the Add-in as per the instructions.
    4. Once the add-in has been loaded you can set the Security level back to HIGH

How to use:

  • Open the Presentation containing Flash Movies.

  • If required select Tools | FlashBack | Initialize FlashBack.

  • Select the appropriate options.

  • Launch the show. FlashBack will automatically rewind all Flash movies during the slide show.
