PowerPoint 2007/2010 Viewer Launcher

The package to CD feature in PowerPoint creates an autorun.inf which launches a web page instead of the presentation. Use this launcher instead which will check if PowerPoint viewer is installed or not. If it is installed, it will launch the specified presentation. If it is not installed it will check if "ViewerInstaller.exe" is present in the same folder as the launcher application and launch it. If it doesn't find the installer, it will launch the web page from where the user can download the viewer.

How to use:
  1.  Download and extract the files from the zip into a folder.
  2. Package the presentation and open the folder containing the packaged files.


  3. Copy LaunchViewer.exe into that folder.


  4. You will need to make a couple of edits to the autorun.inf using notepad.
    The contents of autorun.inf will look like this:



    Change it to



    Note that "mypresentation.pptx" is the name of my presentation. You should enter the name of your presentation.
  5. Save Autorun.inf
  6. Now publish the folder contents to a CD.
  7. Insert the finalized CD into the drive and it will launch the presentation automatically using the PowerPoint 2010 viewer.
