Selecting the Correct Save Option

Word documents can be saved in various modes. Choose the right one to get the best out of your Word Processor. The settings are available in the Tools menu, Options dialog box, on the Save tab

1) Uncheck the Allow fast saves check box if :
You want Word to perform a full save (save the complete document). It's important to have Word perform a full save instead of a fast save at these times:
You finish working on a document and save it for the last time
Before you share a document with other people
Before you begin a task that uses a lot of memory, such as searching for text or compiling an index
Before you convert the document to a different file format
You selected the Always create backup copy check box (Tools menu, Options dialog box, Save tab) to have Word save a backup copy for you

2) Check the Allow fast saves check box if:
You want Word to save a list of changes separately from your stored work (you cannot view the list). For example:
Your document contains large pictures, tables, columns, or linked objects, or your document is very large and you want Word to save changes more quickly.
Your computer has ample disk space.
You are not saving documents over a network connection.
If you have Word perform fast saves, it's good practice to periodically clear the Allow fast saves check box so that Word can integrate the list of changes with your stored work.

3) Select the Allow background saves check box if :
You want to continue working in Word while you save a document (a pulsing disk icon appears on the status bar while Word saves your work). This setting works best when you are not using Word on a system that has low memory.
